Senior Project Coordinator

ACL Steel Ltd is looking for an experienced project coordinator/manager to join our growing team. The candidate have 5 years of experience in the structural steel manufacturing and/or construction industry. The environment at ACL Steel is fast paced and ever changing. The candidate must work closely with all ACL Steel team members as well as subcontractors and our valued clients on all commercial and industrial ACL Steel projects.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and coordinating members of the project coordination team. Providing guidance and a foundation for teambuilding.
  • Analysis of blueprints, structural drawings, plans, specifications, and scope of work provided by client.
  • Perform material take-offs for change orders based on architectural and structural drawings
  • Responsible for managing client expectations, resolving issues, and ensuring client satisfaction
  • Solicitation and evaluation of subcontractors based on price, quality, service, and support
  • Manage project from start to finish addressing any problems that arise, liaison with drafting team, subcontractors, and clients as required
  • Perform site visits, meet with site supervisors, and steel erection foreman to review all work
  • Maintain accurate records of jobsite conditions by documenting on written reports with supporting photos
  • Perform said office duties as required on a job-to-job basis
  • Understanding of risk management policies and procedures
  • Time management, managing sub-trades and managing relationships with key stakeholders
  • Understanding project budgets and monitoring project/team performance and project/team costs
  • Managing of quality control, health and safety checks and the inspection of work carried out

Experience & Education

  • Degree in engineering an asset
  • 3 – 5 years of project management work experience in the construction or steel sectors
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Organization skills, problem solving, integrity, and task prioritization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead a team, set deadlines and manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrate an understanding of revenue, cost, gross margin and cash management

Junior Project Coordinator

The candidate must work closely with all ACL Steel team members as well as subcontractors and our valued clients on all commercial and industrial ACL Steel projects.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, co-ordinate and schedule the activities of workers who shape, form and join metal parts or products to specified dimensions, machine metal into parts, products, tools and dies or molds with precise measurements and erect light and heavy metal products and structures
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other departments
  • Requisition materials and supplies
  • Prepare production and other reports
  • Apply elementary drafting principles to creation of detail drawings
  • Capable of updating erection drawings under supervision
  • A working knowledge of math, and familiar with the CISC Handbook of Steel Construction and drawing office standards
  • Operate computer-assisted design (CAD) and drafting workstation
  • Understanding of design bolt and weld values in elementary connection design
  • Apply basic weld symbols as they relate to structural steel

Experience & Education

  • Able to prepare details for simple beams, framing, purlins, girts, columns, sag rods and bracing

Fitter/Welder

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and maintain machinery and equipment
  • Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade (grinders, torches, etc)
  • Inspect and maintain tools
  • Lays out, position, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler (fit and weld structural steel - know and identify weld symbols)
  • Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, and Flux Core Welding
  • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions (have/maintain CWB certified welding tickets)
  • Monitor the burning and weld process to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of metals (remove rough spots from work piece using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper)
  • Mark or tag identification on parts
  • Lift raw materials, finished products, and packed items, manually or using hoists
  • Attach slings, ropes, and chains to objects such as beams, HSS, angles, plate, flat bar or other such products
  • Count finished products to determine if product orders are complete and sign off finished work
  • Maintain production schedules
  • Work safely following established SOPs, Company and Legislated Health and Safety Policies
  • Report any unsafe conditions or behaviors that you identify immediately
  • Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned from time to time

Experience & Education

  • Ideally a minimum of 3 to 5 years related welding experience
  • Ability to meet physical demands of job (standing for extended periods, repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds).
  • Forklift experience an asset, ability to obtain certification
  • Overhead crane experience an asset, ability to obtain certification
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment
